Making Jump To Our Beats LagosJump Radio
Darkoo, born Oluwafisayo Isa on September 18, 2001, is a British-Nigerian rapper and singer who has taken the music world by storm. Bursting onto the scene with her hit single “Gangsta” featuring One Acen, Darkoo has proven herself to be a force to be reckoned with in the music industry. The song, which peaked at number 22 on the Official Singles Chart and topped the UK Afrobeats Chart in 2020, marked the beginning of her meteoric rise.
Born in Lagos, Nigeria, Darkoo moved to the UK at the tender age of 7 and was raised in South London. This cross-cultural upbringing has significantly influenced her music, blending the rhythms of Afrobeats with the gritty beats of British drill. She attended St Catherine’s Catholic School for Girls, where her passion for music began to flourish.
Darkoo started her music career at just 15, initially focusing on drill rap before incorporating singing into her sound. Her unique style quickly gained attention, and in 2019, she released “Gangsta,” which became a viral sensation on TikTok and climbed the charts. This success was followed by “Juicy” featuring Hardy Caprio, which further solidified her position in the industry.
In 2021, she featured on the remix of “Body” by Russ Millions and Tion Wayne, a track that reached number 1 on the Official Singles Chart. Her debut EP, 2 In 1, released in July 2021, showcased her versatility and featured collaborations with artists like Tion Wayne and Unknown T.
Darkoo’s talent has not gone unnoticed. She was nominated for Best Female Act and Best Newcomer at the 2020 MOBO Awards, with “Gangsta” also receiving a nomination for Song of the Year. In 2022, she was recognized as the Best Diaspora Afrobeats Artist of the Year at The Headies Awards and was announced as one of Pandora Music Italy’s most-streamed musicians.
With her unique sound and relentless drive, Darkoo continues to break boundaries and inspire a new generation of artists. Her influence extends beyond music, as she serves as a role model for young women worldwide, especially within the African diaspora.
