Early Life and Beginnings

MzVee was born in South La Estates, Accra, to Ernest and Florence Hamenoo-Kpeda. She grew up in a close-knit family with two older sisters and a brother. Her educational journey took her from St Martin de Porres School to St. Mary’s Girls’ Senior High School, where she studied Home Economics. Later, she pursued Business Administration at Ghana Telecom University, though she eventually left school in 2016 to focus on her music career.

MzVee’s first foray into the music world was as the lead singer of the girl band D3 under Lynx Entertainment in 2012. The group quickly gained popularity with hits like “Good Girls Gone Bad” and “Gyani Gyani,” but disbanded in 2013 due to the members’ educational commitments.

Solo Career and Breakthrough

In January 2014, MzVee launched her solo career with the release of “Borkor Borkor,” a song that showcased her talent and set the stage for her success. She followed up with “Natural Girl,” which became an anthem of self-love and empowerment, resonating with audiences across Africa. Her debut solo album, Re-Vee-Lation, featured collaborations with top artists like Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale, and M.anifest, earning her critical acclaim and several awards, including the New Artiste of the Year at the 2015 Ghana Music Awards.

MzVee’s second album, Verified, released in 2015, solidified her status in the industry, earning her seven nominations at the 2016 Ghana Music Awards, including Album of the Year and Record of the Year for “Abofra,” featuring Efya. Her third album, DaaVee, released in 2017, continued her streak of success.

Hiatus and Return

Despite her success, MzVee took a two-year hiatus from music between 2017 and 2019 due to personal struggles with depression. In a candid interview, she revealed that during this time, she found support in fellow artist Efya, who helped her navigate through the challenges. MzVee’s return to music in 2020 was marked by the release of her album inVeencible, featuring collaborations with renowned artists like Sarkodie, Efya, and Falz. The album received widespread praise and reaffirmed MzVee’s position as a leading artist in the Ghanaian music scene.

Recent Achievements

In 2022, MzVee celebrated a decade in the music industry with the release of her fifth album, 10 Thirty, inspired by her 10th year as a musician and her 30th birthday. The album features collaborations with prominent artists like Bella Shmurda, Yemi Alade, Tiwa Savage, Stonebwoy, and Kofi Kinaata, further showcasing her versatility and influence in the industry.

MzVee’s journey is a testament to her resilience and passion for music. Her impact extends beyond her chart-topping hits, as she continues to inspire young girls across Africa with her message of self-empowerment and natural beauty.

MzVee’s Legacy

MzVee’s influence in the music industry has earned her numerous awards and nominations, including being the first Ghanaian female artist to be nominated for a major BET Award in 2016. Her dedication to her craft and her ability to overcome personal challenges make her a true icon in Ghanaian music.

As she continues to evolve and break new ground, MzVee remains an inspiration to many, and her music will undoubtedly continue to resonate with fans around the world.
