Making Jump To Our Beats LagosJump Radio
This Throwback Thursday, we’re diving into the remarkable journey of Omawumi Megbele, a true Nigerian icon whose career has left an indelible mark on both music and film.
Born on April 13, 1982, Omawumi’s rise to fame began with her standout performance as the runner-up on Idols West Africa in 2007. This milestone set the stage for a career filled with incredible achievements and artistic evolution.
Omawumi’s discography is a testament to her talent and versatility. Her debut single “In The Music” paved the way for her hit albums, including Wonder Woman and The Lasso of Truth. Her fourth album, Love Deep High Life (LDHL), released in 2021, is a vibrant blend of genres featuring collaborations with Phyno, Waje, Brymo, and Ric Hassani. Her latest project, “More,” showcases her growth as an artist and continues to captivate audiences with its fresh and dynamic sound.
In addition to her musical success, Omawumi has made significant contributions to film. Her roles in Inale and House of Gold highlight her acting prowess, while her 2019 film She Is demonstrates her commitment to addressing societal issues through storytelling.
Omawumi’s influence extends beyond the arts. As a brand ambassador for Globacom, Konga.com, and Malta Guinness, and a participant in the “Rise with the Energy of Africa” campaign, she continues to promote African culture and values.
