Making Jump To Our Beats LagosJump Radio
Emerging from the vibrant landscape of African music is Samuel Kolapo Ajayi, popularly known as SammyKay. His unique approach and style herald a new dawn for African rhythms, promising a progressive trajectory for the continent’s sounds.
Originating from Lagos, Nigeria, SammyKay’s musical escapades began seemingly by chance amongst secondary school friends. By the tender age of 14, he had already showcased his instrumental talents in his local church choir. Despite his early group disbanding, this spurred him towards professionally recording “Jo Fun Mi”, a track that gained local acclaim.
As he navigated the musical landscape, he formed a band with seasoned acquaintances, gracing numerous events with their performances. His educational journey, passing through an international secondary school and Babcock University, presented encounters with notable figures such as Dija and Davido, refining his perspective on Nigerian music.
SammyKay’s artistry lies in blending diverse musical elements. Integrating afrobeat, soul, Nigerian highlife, and a fusion of English/Yoruba, he’s pioneered his distinguished ‘afrosoul’ genre.
Over the years, SammyKay has unveiled two significant singles: “The Introduction” in 2019 and “Wami(Find Me)” in 2021. His current focus is on his forthcoming EP, “The Introduction”, a testament to his musical prowess.
His latest offering, “Need Me”, is an amapiano-influenced afrobeat track. This smoothly flowing song is not only making waves but is also a prominent feature on LagosJump Radio‘s playlists.
