Lifesize Teddy is a name that has been making waves across the Nigerian music scene. The newest signee of Mavin Records, this Port Harcourt-born rapper, poet, and vocalist is a force to be reckoned with. Her unique fusion of Afro-pop, hip-hop, and alte sounds positions her as one of the most exciting artists to watch.
Lifesize Teddy, raised between Port Harcourt and Bonny Island, embodies a blend of cultures that shapes her sound. Her music is a reflection of her upbringing, influenced by the international reach of hip-hop and her African heritage.
Describing her journey, Lifesize Teddy shared:
“I’ve been called Teddy all my life, but one day I added the ‘Lifesize’ prefix to make it cool. I’ve been rapping since I was nine, inspired by albums like Kanye West’s The College Dropout and Kendrick Lamar’s Now or Never.”
Joining Mavin Records’ Artist Development Academy in 2020, Lifesize Teddy spent three years honing her craft under the guidance of industry veterans. Now officially launched, she continues Mavin’s tradition of spotlighting raw talent and transforming them into global sensations.
Her debut EP, Lifesize Teddy, and her latest project, POISN, showcase her growth and versatility. Collaborating with producers like Andre Vibez and Sevn, she blends rap, poetry, and Afro-pop into a sound that’s uniquely hers. Tracks like “Hypnotic” and “Air” highlight her lyrical prowess, while songs like “John Wick” pay homage to popular culture with infectious rhythms.
Lifesize Teddy describes her music as a diary of her life:
“I document my life through my music. With POISN, I talk about how blessed I feel while embracing my confidence and individuality.”
Her inspirations include Burna Boy, Kendrick Lamar, Rihanna, and Brenda Fassie, with each artist contributing to the layers of her multifaceted artistry.
Growing up in Port Harcourt played a significant role in shaping her sound. The city, known for producing stars like Burna Boy and Omah Lay, exposed her to a rich blend of genres, from hip-hop and highlife to soul and pop.
“Everyone in PH City listens to hip-hop and wants to be a rapper. That mix of everything shaped my musical identity,” she says.
With her confidence, talent, and support from one of Africa’s most prominent labels, Lifesize Teddy is poised for greatness. Her artistry bridges cultures and genres, creating music that resonates across audiences.
