Khaid: From Mechanic to Afrobeats Star

Sulaimon Shekoni Solomon, professionally known as Khaid, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and rapper. 

Early Life:

Sulaimon Shekoni Abiola grew up in Shibiri-Ojo, in a family of ten. He worked as a roadside mechanic to support his family and music career.

Career:

He started his music journey in the streets of Ojo. Khaid’s freestyle caught Sydney Talker’s attention, leading to a record deal.

On January 20, 2022, Khaid debuted with Neville Records. His first single, “With You,” peaked at number 48 on the Nigeria TurnTable chart.

On April 22, 2022, he released “SKI,” followed by his debut EP “Diversity” on May 27, 2022.

Khaid’s single “Amala” with Zlatan and Rexxie debuted at number 91 on the Nigeria TurnTable Top 100 songs.

“Jolie,” released on January 25, 2023, peaked at number 7 on the Nigeria TurnTable Top 100 songs.

Recognition and Success:

On June 22, 2022, Khaid was named Apple Music’s Up Next Artist for Nigeria.

On January 31, 2023, Spotify listed him as an emerging Nigerian artist to watch.

Endorsement and Recognition:

On February 14, 2023, Davido praised Khaid’s “Jolie,” calling it a song he played over a hundred times.
