Naseeb Abdul Juma Issack, popularly known as Diamond Platnumz, is a Tanzanian Bongo Flava recording artist, dancer, philanthropist, and businessman. Born on October 2, 1989, he has become a prominent figure in East and Central Africa’s music scene.
Diamond Platnumz began his music career in 2006 at the age of 18 while selling clothes to fund his studio sessions. His initial single, “Toka Mwanzo,” didn’t achieve commercial success, but he persevered. In 2010, he released “Kamwambie,” a breakthrough hit that earned him three Tanzania Music Awards. This success led to his debut album, Kamwambie, the same year.
In 2014, Diamond received a BET Award nomination for Best International Act: Africa, highlighting his growing influence beyond Tanzania. He is known for collaborating with videographer Director Kenny, producing popular music videos like “Waah,” which was nominated for Best African Video at the 2021 All Africa Music Awards and has garnered over 100 million views on YouTube.
Beyond music, Diamond Platnumz is a successful entrepreneur. He founded the WCB Wasafi Record Label, Wasafi Bet, and Wasafi Media. In 2017, he signed a record deal with Universal Music, releasing his third studio album, A Boy from Tandale, in 2018. By 2021, WCB Wasafi entered a 360 Partnership with Warner Music Group, expanding his global reach.
His 2022 EP, First Of All, features collaborations with artists like Zuchu, Adekunle Gold, and Focalistic, blending R&B, Bongo Flava, and Afrobeats. To promote the EP, Diamond premiered all music videos in Tanzanian cinemas, a first in the country.
Diamond Platnumz is a Muslim and has four children with different partners, including Ugandan businesswoman Zari Hassan, Tanzanian model Hamisa Mobetto, and Kenyan musician Tanasha Donna. He is also related to Tanzanian socialite-cum-DJ Romy Jones and musician Queen Darleen.
As one of the most decorated artists in East and Central Africa, Diamond Platnumz has received numerous awards and nominations, including multiple MTV Europe Music Awards. His influence continues to grow, solidifying his status as a key figure in African music.
