When you think of Nigerian hip-hop and Afrobeat’s transformative years, one name that resonates with originality, class, and versatility is Naeto C. A pioneer in his own right, Naeto C’s journey from science enthusiast to music superstar is as inspiring as his discography. Let’s take a nostalgic walk through his life and career, celebrating the milestones that have defined this legend.

Early Life and Education

Naeto C, born Naetochukwu Chikwe, entered the world on December 17, 1982, in Houston, Texas, to Nigerian parents. Though born in the U.S., his connection to Nigeria remained strong, with Lagos serving as the backdrop to much of his upbringing and education.

After completing his secondary education in Lagos, Naeto C moved to the United States for higher studies. His academic journey began at SUNY Old Westbury and continued at George Washington University, where he earned a BSc in Biology in 2004. While initially pursuing a medical career, Naeto C made the bold decision to follow his passion for music—a choice that would define his life.

In 2010, he furthered his education with a Master’s in Energy Studies from the University of Dundee, Scotland, showcasing his ability to balance academics and artistry.

The Rise of a Music Icon

Naeto C’s music career took off when he joined the World Famous Akademy (WFA) alongside Uzikwendu and Ikechukwu, a collective born out of their mutual love for hip-hop. After years of collaboration, he officially became a part of Storm Records in 2006.

His debut album, “U Know My P,” released in 2008, was a groundbreaking project that blended Afrobeat, hip-hop, and Naeto’s lyrical prowess. Tracks like “Sitting on Top” and “Lagos City Hustla” quickly became fan favorites, solidifying his place as a trailblazer in the Nigerian music scene.

Naeto C continued to dominate with his sophomore album, “Super C Season” (2011), featuring hits like “10 Over 10” and “Kini Big Deal”. The album not only highlighted his growth as an artist but also earned him accolades, including MTV Africa Music Awards for Best New Musician in 2008 and Video of the Year in 2009.
