“Eryce Dennisson” : Spreading Hope through Music Boluwatife
Elijah Ijogah, also known as Eryce Dennisson, was born on September 27, 1991, in Oyo State, Nigeria. His father introduced him to reggae legends like Lucky Dube and Majek Fashek, igniting his passion for music.
Elijah’s music journey started in Ilorin, where he met Sodiq, an upcoming artist, who provided him with beats to write his first song. Despite limited resources, he recorded his first songs, “Teach them Right” and “Zero to Hero,” while working as a teacher in Ogun State.
Facing hunger and desperation, Elijah contemplated suicide with only 50 naira to his name. However, an inner voice repeated, “I am not a mistake,” inspiring him to write his song, “Not A Mistake.”
Elijah’s musical influences include Lucky Dube, African China, Majek Fashek, and Justin Bieber, who have shaped his musical style and message.
His latest single, “Not A Mistake,” carries a powerful message of self-worth and resilience, challenging the notion that being African is a mistake.
Living in Lagos has inspired Elijah to infuse his lyrics with messages of positivity and morality, promoting values that uplift and inspire.
While the Nigerian music scene has improved in production quality, Elijah believes there is a decline in lyrical content, particularly in secular music.
Elijah’s music is characterized by motivational and inspirational themes, aimed at impacting the lives of young people positively.
Though his music has evolved over the years, Elijah feels he has not yet reached his full potential and is committed to continuous growth.
Financial constraints and the negative reputation of some upcoming artists have made it difficult for Elijah to secure collaborations and recognition.
Elijah looks forward to collaborating with artists such as Frank Edwards, Adekunle Gold, and Flavour. He plans to launch his first album on May 4, 2024.
Elijah’s songwriting process varies; sometimes, he begins with a melody, while other times, he starts with lyrics and finds a melody to match.
To stay updated with musical trends, Elijah actively listens to music from various artists online, while ensuring that he maintains his unique sound and message.
The music industry has taught Elijah the importance of perseverance and staying true to oneself, even in the face of criticism and rejection.
Elijah’s music is available on various online platforms, including Spotify, BoomPlay, and Apple Music. He also keeps his fans updated on social media.
In the next five years, Elijah hopes to have achieved success in the music industry and to establish his record label, nurturing young talent and spreading his message of love and truth through music.
For those new to his music, Elijah recommends starting with “I’m Not a Mistake,” a song filled with hope and self-love, inspiring listeners to remain hopeful even in difficult times.
