The world of music brims with diverse talent. Drax Africa, a dynamic duo from Zambia, exemplifies this vibrancy. They’ve swiftly marked their territory in the international music scene with their dynamic performances. Music, being globally cherished, offers a tough competition. Yet, the duo’s progress showcases their potential for longevity. On 5th May 2023, their much-awaited humanitarian single, ‘WE ARE THE WORLD’, will drop. Check it out here.
Amidst global turmoil, the Drax Africa twins channel hope. Their music resonates with multicultural acceptance. Moreover, their tunes spread love and optimism for distressed communities.
Music was embedded in their DNA. Born to a musical family, the twins cultivated their passion early on. Their father and elder sister, both vocalists, heavily influenced them. This foundation exposed them to genres from hip-hop to pop. Their influences range from Michael Jackson to Celine Dion. Through exploration and blending sounds, a signature style emerged. This ‘Afro-fusion’ has become their trademark, garnering global fans swiftly.
Reggae, more than any genre, has deeply inspired them. Legends like Bob Marley and Lucky Dube filled their early playlists. This passion led Kelvin and Golden Mumba, the multi-talented twins, down their unique path. Their Afro-fusion music carries distinct Reggae undertones, proving the genre’s impact on them.
2019 marked their entry into the African music scene with ‘Turn Around’. This debut quickly rose in popularity. Its upbeat and colourful tones made it a summer favourite. Beyond African shores, global Afro-music enthusiasts embraced it warmly. Another notable contributor to this track was Zambian vocalist, Kondwani Tha Troy.
Following their debut, ‘Heart of Mine’ was released, creating significant buzz. Back-to-back hits secured them the Artist Republik’s ‘Song of the Summer’ award for two consecutive years. Their prominence caught Jamaican Reggae sensation General Degree’s eye. Their collaboration, ‘Fine One’, in 2020 amplified their fame.
In 2021, ‘Turn Around’ clinched another accolade, the Best Indie Track in the World, from the Djooky Music Awards. Noteworthy judges like Patrice Rushen and Brian Malouf recognised their talent.
2022 witnessed more collaborations, including a single, ‘Only You’, with Ecuadorian electronic artist ‘Zlav’. This blend of Afro-fusion with electronic elements showcased their versatility. Later that year, ‘Senorita’ was released, a teaser from their upcoming EP, ‘Afro in Space’. It gained traction across various music platforms.
Drax Africa’s journey, filled with rich melodies and global recognition, is just beginning. Their dedication to their craft promises even more sensational tunes in the future.
