Daniel Etiese Benson, popularly known as BNXN (formerly Buju), has cemented his place as one of the most versatile and talented artists in the Afro-fusion genre. Born on May 14, 1997, in Lagos, BNXN’s journey to stardom is a story of passion, perseverance, and undeniable talent.
Hailing from Akwa Ibom State, BNXN grew up in Gbagada, Lagos, before relocating to Ogun State. His love for music was ignited during his childhood, with legends like 2Baba and Burna Boy serving as his primary inspirations. This early exposure laid the foundation for the unique sound he brings to the Afro-fusion scene.
BNXN gained prominence with his 2021 EP, “Sorry I’m Late,” which featured collaborations with The Cavemen and top-tier producers like Rexxie. The EP showcased his confidence and artistry, earning rave reviews. His debut concert in Lagos and sold-out London show solidified his status as an artist to watch.
In 2022, he officially changed his name from Buju to BNXN for unique branding, and his collaboration with Pheelz on the chart-topping single “Finesse” became a global anthem. He continued to break boundaries with hits like “Propeller” featuring Jae5 and British rapper Dave, making his mark on international charts.
BNXN’s accolades speak volumes about his impact on the music scene. In 2022, he bagged the prestigious Next Rated Award at The Headies, which included a luxury car prize. His debut album, “Sincerely, Benson” (2023), further showcased his evolution as an artist, featuring collaborations with global stars like Popcaan and Headie One.
In 2024, BNXN surprised fans with a joint album titled “RnB” alongside Ruger. Despite their earlier feud, the album reflected their ability to create magic together, earning praise from fans and critics alike.
BNXN’s music is a perfect blend of soulful melodies, catchy hooks, and relatable lyrics. His ability to tell stories through music and his humility despite his fame make him a true gem in the Afrobeat world.
On this Man Crush Monday, we celebrate BNXN not just for his talent but for his authenticity and contribution to Nigerian music.
