Meet Young Jonn, our Man Crush Monday! Known for his extraordinary talent in music production, singing, and songwriting, Young Jonn, born John Saviours Udomboso on February 16, 1995, has made an unforgettable mark in the Nigerian music industry. Currently signed to Chocolate City Music, he continues to rise, capturing fans’ hearts and delivering timeless hits. This post explores his musical journey, from producing chart-topping hits to releasing his celebrated tracks as an artist.
Young Jonn’s story begins in Ibadan, Oyo State, where he was raised in a Christian family with Akwa Ibom roots. His passion for music was apparent from a young age, playing musical instruments and exploring different facets of performance during his time at GOF College, Osogbo. Later, he pursued Communication and Language Arts at the University of Ibadan, building on his creative foundation and setting the stage for his eventual success.
Young Jonn’s career took off in 2012 when he signed with Hit Factory Studio and produced the popular track “Story For The Gods” by Olamide. His incredible work on “Bobo” by Olamide earned him nominations for Producer of the Year at both The Headies 2015 and the Nigeria Entertainment Awards. Ranked #3 on The NET’s “Nigeria’s Top 7 Biggest Music Producers,” Young Jonn established himself as a household name in production.
Throughout the 2010s, Young Jonn’s production skills graced numerous hits like “Gbese” and “Efejoku” by Lil Kesh, “Biggest Backside” by Davido, and standout tracks on albums such as Olamide’s Eyan Mayweather and Davido’s The Baddest. His talent for shaping sound and creating beats that resonate with audiences continues to influence the Afrobeats landscape today.
In 2022, Young Jonn transitioned from behind the scenes to the spotlight by signing with Chocolate City Music. His single “Dada” from his debut EP, Love Is Not Enough (Vol. 1), quickly gained traction and further propelled his career. The remix of “Dada” featuring Davido became an instant hit, followed by other popular tracks like “Xtra Cool,” “Normally,” and “If You Leave” from Love Is Not Enough (Vol. 2). In 2024, he released his new EP, Jiggy Forever, solidifying his place in the industry as both a skilled producer and a captivating artist.
Young Jonn’s growth from a renowned producer to an influential artist represents the next generation of Afrobeat talent. With hits like “Currency” featuring Olamide and “Aquafina”, he’s not just riding the wave of Afrobeats but actively shaping it. His journey so far has been remarkable, and we can’t wait to see what he brings to the music world next.
Young Jonn’s ability to evolve while staying true to his roots and continuously producing excellent music is what makes him our Man Crush Monday. He’s a powerhouse in the industry, inspiring a new era of artists and showing that passion and dedication truly pay off.
